Explanation
Points mode divides total points earned by total points possible. It works when grade items contribute according to their point values.
Weighted Categories mode multiplies each category grade by its percentage weight. The calculator shows each category contribution, the total weighted contribution, and the current grade normalized to the weight entered.
Weights should normally total 100%. If they do not, the calculator displays a warning while continuing to show the normalized current grade.

When should I use Points mode?
Use it when grades are based on total points earned versus total points possible.
When should I use Weighted Categories mode?
Use it when categories such as homework, tests, projects, and a final exam have assigned percentage weights.
Must category weights total 100%?
They normally should. The calculator warns when they do not and shows a normalized current grade based on the weight entered.
How is category contribution calculated?
Current grade is multiplied by category weight and divided by 100.
Can current grades exceed 100%?
Yes. Weighted category grades above 100% are supported for extra credit.
Can I add or remove grade rows?
Yes. You can add as many rows as needed and remove rows while retaining at least one usable row.
Can I switch modes without losing values?
Yes. Values entered for each mode are preserved when you switch between Points and Weighted Categories.
What does Clear do?
Clear returns the calculator to Points mode with one blank row and clears all entries, results, and messages.
